Yesterday evening, World Poker Tour Enterprises announced that it came to an agreement with Fox Sports Network (FSN) to broadcast season seven of the World Poker Tour. FSN now has the rights to broadcast 26 one-hour episodes of WPT in the United States, which are being filmed now.
Details such as the amount FSN paid for the rights, the time slot or premiere date of the broadcast hasn’t been released, and will be released at a later date. Card Player confirmed that the show will be broadcast sometime Sundays.
“The World Poker Tour has a track record as the ultimate brand name in televised poker,” said George Greenberg, FSN Executive Vice President of Programming and Production. “FSN is very happy to televise such quality content and we look forward to future programming opportunities with the WPT.”
This will be the third network home for the WPT. The Travel Channel ended its relationship with WPTE after its first five seasons. GSN quickly picked up the show (it begin broadcasting there earlier this year), but upper management changes sealed its fate as the new bosses decided to move away from gambling-themed shows.
FSN has regional networks in 16 major-league sport cities and its affiliated networks reach more than 80 million homes in the U.S. GSN, on the other hand, is seen on TVs in 66 million homes. The WPT will continue to be broadcast on GSN until at least the end of this year.
