Lee Rousso, the Washington State attorney and former candidate for governor who is suing the state to try to eliminate the law that makes it a Class C felony to play online poker there, will get his day in King County Superior Court on May 15.
In conjunction with the hearing, the Poker Players Alliance is holding a rally outside the courthouse immediately following the hearing from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Scheduled to appear at the rally and press conference are PPA members Barry Greenstein and Andy Bloch. Rousso is the state director of Washington State for the PPA and was a candidate for Governor for a few months earlier this year. He said he was running for Governor solely to raise awareness of the extreme penalties that online poker players are subject to in Washington State and to change the law. He withdrew from the race when it became apparent that the courts would hear his case. He’s arguing that the law, on the books since 2006, in unconstitutional.
