The Biggest Tournament in Japan Will Award One Seat to the World Series of Poker Championship

The All Japan Poker Championship (AJPC) is the largest poker tournament in Japan, and the second-annual event is scheduled to take place from April 27-May 18.

Because casinos are not yet allowed to operate in Japan, this event was created to provide poker fans there an opportunity to play the game. The organizer and planner of the event is Global Mix, a consulting firm which specializes in casino-related business, events, and media. The overall objectives are to foster Japanese players to play in other major events, standardize poker in Japan as preparation to host future tournaments, and to promote poker as a new cultural, healthy experience.

Since Japanese law prevents citizens from betting money on games, the tournaments in the AJPC have no entry fee. The main event will be held in Tokyo on May 18. In order to gain entry, players must win one of the preliminary events held on April 27 in Osaka or on May 11 and 17 in Tokyo. There will also be a ladies tournament and seniors tournament on the same dates.

The winner of the main event will receive a bracelet and a $10,000 seat into the World Series of Poker main event with airfare and accommodation. The AJPC is sponsored by the Sega Sammy group, best known for its gaming hardware and software.
