PokerStars Sunday Million
The PokerStars Sunday Million attracted a field of 8,800 players, generating a prize pool of $1,760,000. It was a huge drop from the field of 13,267 players who bought in last week, but that was for the special 25-billionth-hand promotion, meaning everything returned to normal this week.
A total of 1,260 places were paid to notables such as Don "Donk Crusher" Stevens (117th), bootswild (116th), Jason "strassa2" Strasser (89th, pictured left), exposabre (58th), Josh "DahJinerat" Mancuso (53rd) and thechemist83 (25th).
Online superstar and OPOY candidate Jonathan "MONSTER_DONG" Karamalikis managed a final-table finish, but fizzled out in ninth place, earning $12,320. Karamalikis made a move on the short-stack with 9-7, but was looked up by cmyworth's J-10. The flop brought a jack, and Karamalikis was eliminated.
When heads-up play began, iggymcfly held a nearly 4.5-1 chip lead on cmyworth, but a crucial double-up with K-J against K-8 made the match closer to even. cmyworth doubled up again with pocket sevens against iggymcfly's pocket threes.
Finally, iggymcfly got the rest of his stack in with A-2, only to be outflopped by cmyworth's K-10. For the first time in a while, a player had won the tournament outright.
