Roberto RomanelloAfter 12 six seater heats, two six seater turbo runner-up heats, and two seven seater semi-finals the PartyPoker.com European Open V found its final table. With a prize pool of $504,000 up for grabs, the Open’s ultimate battle played out yesterday evening with some interesting results.

Here’s how the six seater looked as they began the last leg:

Seat 1: Marc Goodwin (264,000)
Seat 2: Roberto Romanello (143,000)
Seat 3: Craig Burgess (143,000)
Seat 4: Andy Ward (293,000)
Seat 5: William Taylor (351,000)
Seat 6: Neil Channing (206,000)

The first person to take a bite out of the prize pool was Belfast civil servant William Taylor, who coincidentally started the day as chip leader. He went home with $20,000 for his efforts.

Meanwhile Welshman Roberto Romanello was making moves — he chipped up after an all-in with 99. Marc Goodwin called with AK and the board fell 523Q10 to give Romanello a nine-high flush and a chip stack of 512,000.

Romanello then went on to knock Channing out with two glorious kings which made their set on the flop. Channing holding A-8 took fifth place for a pay day of $25,000. Next on the chopping board was Internet sports trader Craig Burgess. After making the final table two years in a row, it wasn’t to be this time around either and he left $30,000 richer.

PartyPoker.com’s $300,000 guaranteed winner and World Open IV fourth place finisher Andy Ward followed him out in third place for $30,000.

Heads up time saw Marc Goodwin face Roberto Romanello with 715,000 chips versus 685,000 respectively. The final hand of the event came when Goodwin pushed all-in with K9 and Romanello called with A10. There was something for everyone on a flop of A96, but Romanello had the best of it. The turn and river did not improve either player’s hand as it fell in a very lady-like fashion — QQ.

Goodwin busted in second for $100,000, and Romanello, who recently spoke to Card Player about his hopes for a big win, took down $200,000 and the title of European Open V champion.
