German World Series of Poker bracelet winner Michael Keiner has won the 888.com Poker Open V title, collecting $250,000 for topping the field of 96 players and ultimately besting Craig Young who qualified on 888.com for just 1c.
The even, which took place in Maidstone, England from Oct. 27 to Nov. 7 and was filmed for broadcast on Sky Sports. There were 108 seats on offer with 888.com giving 35 online qualifiers a chance to star alongside 65 professionals, and eight celebrities, including Shane Warne and Willie Thorne.
In the crucial hand of the heads up match Keiner moved all-in with 10-10 and chip leader Young called with A-K suited. Young hit a flush on the turn but a 10 and jack on the flop meant the jack of diamonds on the river gave Keiner a full house.
This established a massive chip lead for Keiner and he won a few hands later when he called Young’s all in and hit a pair on the flop.
Keiner said of his victory, “It feels unbelievable to win this – it’s a beautiful and exciting moment, I really wanted to win this tournament. You have to win your coin flip if you want to win the tournament and luckily I won mine. He played really tough and I didn’t have a good read on him – he’s a good player and has a good future. ”
