2008 WCOOP Breaks Prize Pool Record; Main Event is Largest Online Poker Tournament Ever

The PokerStars.com World Championship Of Online Poker broke all kinds of records this year. Its total prize pool increased by $3 million from last year to an astounding $39,958,000. Players from 118 countries took part in 33 events and 55,758 buy-ins, and the main event alone had a prize pool of $10,925,000.

Some players did better than others, for example throughout the tournament  “PearlyJammer” and “thedonator” cashed 10 times. South Carolina’s “ckingusc” earned the most with a whopping $1.26million for coming first in the $5,200 no-limit hold’em main event, which began on Sept. 21 and ran for two days. It broke the record for the largest online poker tournament ever to be held. 2,185 players registered for the event, and 324 of them took home a slice of the $10.925 million prize pool.
