A survey undertaken by DuplicatePoker.com revealed that Barack Obama is a keen favourite for president among the poker community, over John McCain.

Of the 1,639 American poker players who took the survey, 1,043 said they were voting for Senator Obama, and only 596 backed Senator McCain. An even larger number of 1,117 believe that Obama will beat McCain when it comes down to the crunch, while a mere 538 said McCain would take the position in the White House on Nov. 4.

The most influential factors for voters, which poker players cited, were the economy (602), the parties' visions for America (379), and the war in Iraq (348).

The survey coincides with the recent political conventions and elaborate campaigns in the U.S., which are flooding the media worldwide. As poker players themselves, McCain and Obama have been using their opposing positions to increase their odds of achieving the ultimate feat and taking down the prestigious position.

Daniel Flamberg, Chief Marketing Officer for DuplicatePoker.com, said, “These results are a good indicator of how Americans are processing and reacting to two weeks of orchestrated political theatre ... Poker players are particularly good at quickly zeroing-in on a winner.”

The survey was conducted online from Sept. 2-4, 2008.
