Roseann “rnana1” Urban is SpadeClub’s latest $40,000 Mega Monthly winner and will receive $10,000 from SpadeClub. Urban’s boyfriend introduced her to poker only five months ago, and she has been hooked ever since. She is extremely excited about her win and was happy to have many members sending her comments about how well she has done, even from the members she beat out.

Urban enjoys playing on SpadeClub and had this to say to all SpadeClub members: “To all of my fellow players, I wish the same thing can happen to every one of you, because it was just awesome. If you can experience this just once in a lifetime, it is just amazing. Everyone is just so excited for me, my grandkids, my kids, my cousins, and many others. It was just the best thing that ever happened to me, so I hope everyone can experience that.”

Urban recently spoke with Card Player about her exciting win and how she plans to develop her poker skills even further.

Card Player: Tell me a little about your life outside of poker.

Roseann “rnana1” Urban: I have been a widow for almost nine years now, and I live with my little dog. I have six grandkids, and they are all teenagers, from 17-22 years of age, whom I really enjoy, and we do a lot of things together. In fact, I took each of them to Las Vegas for their 21st birthdays, which was my present to them. I have a wonderful boyfriend who taught me how to play poker and got me into all of this. All of the other people I was playing with during the tournament told me they want him to teach them how to play now. [Laughs]

CP: Do you have a story behind your screen name?

RU: I am Italian, so “nana” means grandma in Italian, and then I have the number one. So, it means number one grandma. This is also my license plate.

CP: How did you hear about SpadeClub?

RU: From my brother and my cousin. They both belong to some other sites, and out of all the ones they play on, they said they liked SpadeClub the best, and that is why I joined.

CP: What do you think about your big win?

RU: My winning was divine intervention that day. I had just come back from the hospital, and my brother had died, and I swear he was sitting on my shoulder, because it just seemed like I couldn’t do anything wrong. Winning was one of those moments that I hope every poker player will experience, because it was unforgettable.

CP: What was the most important thing that you did to get your game to where it is today?

RU: I play almost every day, so I practice a lot. I also listen to what my boyfriend tells me, which is to just play premium hands and watch my position, and I just try to listen to that.

CP: Which poker skills do you still have to work on?

RU: I don’t think I am aggressive enough. I think I need to be more aggressive when I think I have good hand. I was pretty aggressive in that tournament, though, that is for sure, but that was because I was big-stacked, and, like I said, I don’t think I could have done anything wrong. So, to be more aggressive and not as tight is what I need to work on.

CP: What is your general strategy going into a tournament?

RU: Just really position and playing the premium hands. If I have something good, then I go for it, and if I don’t, then I say “get out.”

CP: What do you think is the key to success when a tournament gets down to heads-up poker?

RU: Patience and being able to read your opponent. You have to pay attention to them so you know how they have been playing. So, patience and position.

CP: Who was your toughest opponent in the event and why?

RU: There were two: “Jeddy” and “TAZPUFF69.” I had played with them before, and I knew they were really good players. Those two, to me, were really good players, making it hard to play against, of course.

CP: What advice can you give to other SpadeClub members who are looking to go deep in these tournaments?

RU: Position and patience; that is the best advice I can give. Although, there is more to position than just what your hand is. I have learned from my boyfriend that patience is a big thing. He is very patient; he has to be in order to teach me.

CP: Do you like playing on SpadeClub?

RU: Oh yes, definitely. SpadeClub is the only poker site that I play on, and I have done pretty well. I am really happy with SpadeClub, [laughs] I am extremely happy with SpadeClub. I like the way the tables are set up, and you can see everything pretty well.
