Brandon Blake turned $500 into $71,454 by outlasting 507 other entrants in the first preliminary event of the World Series of Poker Circuit series that’s now taking place at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

This first event produced a prize pool of $246,380. The final nine players hailed from eight different states: Nevada, New York, North Carolina, Alaska, New Jersey, Colorado, California, and Kansas.

The final results were:

  1. Brandon Blake -- $71,454
  2. Anthony Romanelli -- $37,696
  3. Mike Sica -- $19,710
  4. James Cox -- $17,247
  5. Michael Best -- $14,783
  6. Lorie Bodfield -- $12,319
  7. Tim Frederickson -- $9,855
  8. John Stanfield -- $7,391
  9. Cristian Avendano-Barrera -- $4,928

Sica was a WSOP bracelet-winner in 2004 in a $3,000 no-limit hold’em event that attracted 651 runners. This most recent cash puts Sica about $20,000 away from the $1-million mark.

The two-day event kicked off the 13-tourney series, which climaxes with a $5,000 no-limit hold’em event starting Tuesday, April 29. Click here for the entire schedule.
