Locals Dominate at End of Day Two in Dortmund; 32 Players Remain in Contention

The PokerStars.com European Poker Tour German Open at the Hohensyburg Casino, Dortmund, played down to 32 players last night with local German players faring well, making up half of the top 10 chip leaders.

There was a dearth of big name players left in the tournament with Marcel Luske probably the most well-known playerMarcel Luske still in contention in German Open left in contention. Other pros include Steve Jelinik from the UK and Brandon Schaefer from the U.S.

The top 10 chip leaders hoping to make it into the final eight when play resumes today are:

  1. Diego Perez Marco (Spain) —361,600
  2. Michael McDonald (Canada) — 335,700
  3. Claudio Rinaldi (Switzerland) — 278,700
  4. Marco Liesy (Germany) — 278,200
  5. Johannes Strassmann (Germany) — 276,400
  6. Aniol Alcaraz (Spain) — 216,200
  7. Brandon Schaefer (USA) — 202,300
  8. Andreas Gülünay (Germany) — 201,100
  9. Jan Heitmann (Germany) — 200,400
  10. Manfred Hammer (Germany) — 135,300


A total of 411 players entered the €8,000 buy-in main event, with 198 players taking to the felt on day 1A and 213 players on day 1B. This created a total prize pool of €3,288,000, and a first prize of around €800,000.
