Ninety players progressed from day one (B), creating a field of 142 players for day two.Daniel Negreanu happy with his days work

It was a considerably busier and livelier day than the previous one with the room packed to capacity from early on and remaining busy well into the night. Notable names taking to the felt were Daniel Negreanu, Noah Boeken, Andy Black, Liz Lieu, Alan Smurfit, Erik Friberg, Joe Beevers, Steve Zolotow, Roland De Wolfe, Neil Channing, Thomas Wahlroos, Fabrice Soulier, Surinder Sunar, and Patrik Antonius.

Juha Helppi faced the ignominy of being the first player eliminated when he had his aces cracked by queens. Other early casualties included Ram Vaswani and Gavin Griffin.

Negreanu got off to a flying start when he hit a straight flush for an early double up. He soon found himself at the table of the day, from a railbirding perspective at least, with Lieu and De Wolfe. All three would progress to day two.

Once deep into the evening, the eliminations began to ramp up. Italian Max Pescatori looked despondent after his exit, muttering "No, I'm gone," when asked of his status. Swedish legend Chris Bjorin also looked stunned while wandering around after his elimination, but Noah Boeken looked more philosophical upon his exit. British battlers Iwan Jones and Keith Hawkins also busted late in the day.

Former Premiership football star Tony Cascarino found aces late in the evening and visibly breathed a sigh of relief when his opponent's up and down straight draw didn't materialize, giving him a very manageable £40,000 in chips.
None of the five Paddy Power Poker qualifiers made it through to day two, with Sean Jethi lasting longest into the evening.

Recent World Series of Poker finalist Hevad Kahn came a cropper when his J-J ran into 10-10, which hit another 10 for trips, and the 'Rain' evaporated from the tournament.

The day lasted around one hour less than day one (B), with fewer breaks taken and the unusual sight of players eating their dinners at their tables.

The chip leaders going into day two are:

  1. Nicolas Levi ( France ) £100,300
  2. Daniel Mangas ( Spain ) £98,500
  3. Antony Phillips ( UK ) £94,600
  4. Chris Moneymaker ( US ) £79,700
  5. Ola Brandborn ( Sweden ) £73,100
  6. Fredrik Haugen ( Sweden ) £63,800
  7. Vijayan Nagarajan ( Malaysia ) £59,800
  8. Joseph Mouawad ( Lebanon ) £59,700
  9. Anthony Lellouche ( France ) £58,000

Other big names making it through include Lars Bonding, Per Hildebrand, Dave Colclough, Surindar Sunar, Patrik Antonius, Andreas Krause, Jeff Lisandro, Mark Vos, and Ben Roberts. Play begins at 2 p.m. BST.
