Stars Turn Out for European Poker Tour London

The PokerStars.com European Poker Tour London got underway yesterday at the Grosvenor Victoria Casino, London, with 178 players taking to the felt. The buy-in was £5,200 (approximately $10,500), and with more than 200 players already registered for day one (B), the prize pool is likely to exceed £2 million.

Notable participants in the field on day one (A) were Chris Moneymaker among chip leaders in LondonChris Moneymaker, Dario Minieri, Katja Thater, Luca Pagano, Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliott, Jonas Molander, Jimmy Fricke, Mark Teltscher, Pascal Perrault, Chris Bjorin, Mats Gavatin, Mark Vos, Scott Fischman, Johnny Lodden, Dave Colclough, Gary Jones, and last year's winner, Victoria Coren.

Coren came a cropper early in the evening when her she was forced to push with A-J, believing she was open-raising from late position. She hadn't noticed the player under the gun had already bet and wasn't surprised to find herself up against A-K without improving. Irish Open stalwart Liam Flood got off to a flyer, doubling up around six hands into the tournament and finishing with £27,200 in chips at the end of the evening.

Marty Smyth, who won the Irish Open earlier this year, found himself at a table with Lodden and was determined to stay out of his way. He finished the evening on £13,600 in chips while Lodden hit the rail when his A-J suited ran into pocket fours, which tripped up on the board.

Other exits included Thater, Ulliott, Donnacha O'Dea, and Bjorin.

Day one (B) is scheduled to start at 1 p.m., and the field includes Andy Black, Daniel Negreanu, Alan Smurfit, William Thorsson, Thor Hansen, Surindar Sunar, and recent EPT Barcelona winner Sander Lylloff.
