A bill that would allow businesses to own and operate poker rooms in Texas is dead.
After being passed by legislative committee, Texas State bill HB 3186 found itself at the bottom of list of bills that would be considered by the House this legislative year. By rule, if a bill doesn't reach the House floor by midnight of its second day of consideration, then cannot be considered. A spot near the bottom of this list - which is where HB 3186 wound up - guarantees its failure.
This is the fate of most bills that are considered too controversial or too complicated to be tackled during a particular legislative year. This is also a way for opponents of certain bills to ensure that they will die a quiet death away from the floor.
The Bill's sponsor, Democrat Representative Jose Menendez of San Antonio, has not said if he will reintroduce HB 3186 and a phone call to his office has not yet been returned.

I didn’t like this law anyway. The way it was worded only allowed poker rooms at some bars and horse tracks in Texas. And it talked about only having electronic poker tables. Who wants that? We need real poker rooms like in Vegas, California, and Oklahoma. Look at the nice 46 table poker room at Winstar just 80 miles from Dallas-Fort Worth. That’s what we need in Texas.

I am learning more and more about how corrupt our goverment is since Oct of last year than in all of my 45 years.HOW can you put a deadline on a bill that matters to so many, just because its almost time to vote, and no one wants to make a decision that might hurt them??So they are able to push it to the back KNOWING it won't make it in time and all is well.Didn't we as voters make ourselfs perfectly clear on the last election that were done with the bull****?They should put special treatment to this area, knowing how it got attached in the final seconds, again,in reverse making sure it got thru.We as a goverment are starting to look as corrupt as the countries we threaten to intervien.I guess we need to vote alot more out.
