Massachusetts Representative Barney Frank is considering a bill that would repeal the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.
According to Reuters, a spokesman for Frank confirmed that the liberal Democrat is considering legislation that would repeal the entire UIGE Act.
The UIGE Act started to play havoc on the online poker industry as soon as President George Bush signed it into law in October. The bill, which targets online payment systems, caused many sites to flee, knocked millions of dollars off the values of a handful of publicly traded sites and eWallets, and more recently, is preventing thousands of online poker players from withdrawing their winnings from their preferred sites.

About time. Thank You Congressman Franks. Our Republican parents in Washington totally mis-read this one, and it cost them control of Congress.

While I'm not sure the UIGEA was the straw that broke everyone's backs, it does seem as though someone's about to pull a Cagney on the sneaky--I mean, distinguished--gentleman from Iowa!

if this comes to a bill and a vote we really need to just send an email; there aren't many people sending emails to their congressmen that say "Don't" repeal it. Plus, you should vote even if you don't care because when you leave a message with a congressman there is a little star next to your name on the computer if you voted for the last 3 years... it's pretty disorganized and if they see only a dozen people who want it who vote a lot they use that as a big poll for everyone (it's true, congress people don't have time to do research, and some just leave it up to their secretaries).
