High-Stakes Online Poker: Phil Galfond Loses $500,000 This Week
American Poker Pro Stuck In Mini-Slump On Full Tilt Poker
The 2013 World Series of Poker Europe is ongoing and has put a dent into the high-stakes online poker action, but that hasn’t stopped some of the game’s best from putting in some tense sessions on the virtual felt.
Poker pro Phil Galfond hasn’t had much going on in the Internet world since the summer, and this week suffered a large downswing of $500,000, according to data from tracking site HighstakesDB.
On the year, the Maryland native is still up around $770,000. With $10 million in lifetime earnings online, he is the third biggest winner in the history of online poker.
The 28-year-old was playing the likes of “Denoking” and “Rhje” this week.
The largest hand of the week was of course played by Viktor Blom. It seems like every single week he is involved in the biggest confrontations on the virtual felt.
At $200-$400 no-limit hold’em against “SanIker”:
This hand began with Blom (around $95,000) making a big preflop raise to $2,400. SanIker (around $157,000) three-bet to $8,000, and Blom called.
The flop fell 9 5 3, and SanIker bet $7,200. Blom called, and the Q fell on the turn.
SanIker checked this time, and Blom bet $16,800.
Blom had around $63,000 left, and SanIker put him all in.
The Swede made the call and exposed the 9 8, but was up against the Q J of his opponent. It was an ugly turn card for Blom on the draw-heavy board.
The K on the river didn’t change anything, and SanIker raked in the nearly $191,000 pot.
Despite the loss in the hand, Blom went on to win around $360,000 during the week. He is finally back in the top five in overall earnings on the year. He was up $5 million early on the year.
SallyWoo was the big winner this week, capturing $920,000.
