Is Your Money Safe Online?Managers at Major Poker Rooms Give Their Take |

I received an e-mail from a "Val" today saying: "Do you believe that we will have problems getting out deposited funds back from gaming sites? I have requested most of my funds be returned through my NETeller account and so far, only Full Tilt has sent them as fast as before. I'm still waiting for the funds from Poker Stars, Party Poker, and Ultimate Bet. They say they are reviewing the withdrawals at this time and I should be able to get funds within 72 hours."
I decided to do a little private investigation today. I was able to reach the managers of a number of sites.
Full Tilt, Bodog, Doyles Room (and Brunson's Poker Network), Ultimate Bet and Full Contact Poker will continue their business as usual. Even after the President signs the bill, they do not perceive a problem offering online poker and their doors will remain open. They have signed up many new players since the bill was passed and they each assure me that the players' money is safe.
I have also been assured by the management of Poker Stars and PartyPoker that no matter what happens with the law, the players' money is safe.
Each site's representative explained that many poker sites have used the same popup announcement for years when a player withdraws money. That announcement says something to the effect that their request will be reviewed within 72 hours. The reason for that announcement is that each site monitors collusion, cheating, and other issues that exist primarily to protect players. None of the sites has financial problems and one site refunded players $3.8 million within the last week when the players were in a panic mode.
As for taking bets from US players after the bill is signed by the President, PartyPoker announced it will not be taking bets from US customers.
Poker Stars is still analyzing the issue but they stress that their business is honorable, players need not worry about getting their money back, and currently many players are enjoying poker at their sites.
When I hear from other sites, I will report back their position. I can be reached at allyn@cardplayer.com. Finally, I want to thank our readers for all the fine e-mails I have recently received.
