The Island of JamaicaLegislators on the island nation of Jamaica have unanimously approved two bills that will allow for the construction of casinos.

Jamaica approved a law two years ago that legalized casinos, but only now that the measures to allow casino companies to apply for licenses has passed can the process officially begin.

The bills were drawn out in the Senate because of opposition from religious groups on the island, who believe casinos will only create problems. Jamaica has a few hundred slot machines in Kingston, the nation’s capital, but no other regulated gambling of any kind.
