2012 Player Of The Year Update: Tommy Vedes Into Top 20
Greg Raymer, Adam Levy and Daryll Fish Also Score Big
2012 Florida State Poker Championship
The Isle Casino in Pompano Beach, Florida played host to its 16-event Florida State Poker Championship series, which was highlighted by the $5,300 buy-in no-limit hold’em main event.
A total of 188 players turned out for the big one, building a $940,000 prize pool. The eventual champion was Brandon Barnes, who earned $215,500 and 672 POY points. A number of notable players made deep runs in the event, including Michah Raskin (7th – $34,780), Daryll Fish (6th – $44,650), Stuart Paterson (5th – $58,750), Tommy Vedes (4th – $94,340), Hans Winzeler (3rd – $151,000) and runner-up Adam ‘roothlus’ Levy ($187,000).
For his fourth-place finish, Tommy Vedes earned 336 POY points, moving into 17th place in the overall standings with 2,216 points and $1,016,716 in year-to-date earnings. This was Vedes’ fourth final table of the year, including his win at the 2012 WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown.
Heartland Poker Tour Albuquerque
The Route 66 Casino Hotel in Albuquerque, New Mexico played host to the Heartland Poker Tour $1,650 no-limit hold’em main event on July 30th. The $250,000 guaranteed-prizepool event attracted 131 entrants.
The last man standing was none other than 2004 World Series of Poker main event champion Greg Raymer. For the win, Raymer took home $71, 875 and 264 POY points. This was his sixth career title, bringing his lifetime tournament earnings to just under $7 million.
Raymer was not the only recognizable name to turn out for the event. Joining him where Allen Kessler and the highest-earning female player in tournament poker, Kathy Liebert.
