Ladbrokes Plc, one-time poker market innovator and leader, has sacked its product director Richard Ames.

The move comes ahead of Thursday’s half-year financial results which, according to Telegraph.co.uk, are expected to show profits from the bookmaker’s online businesses halved from the £31 million achieved in the same period last year.

In 2011 Ladbrokes Poker revenue was down 24.5 percent to £14.2 million compared to £18.8 million in 2010.

Ladbrokes digital strategy is in disarray. The company, which once sponsored the Poker Millions and had a stable of sponsored poker pros, has seen its once considerable cache in the poker community evaporate.

Additionally its chief rival in the UK, William Hill, has poured the pressure on with a hugely successful online venture with Playtech and its first foray in the U.S. market.
