Day 1B of the 2012 World Series of Poker $10,000 buy-in Main Event came to a close early Monday morning at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The poker world is now just one day away from having the final numbers for entrants and payouts.
A total of 2,114 players took their seats for the second of three starting days, bringing the combined number for the first two days to 3,180.
The final starting day has consistently been the most attended in recent years, but has a large order to fill this time around. To match the 2011 WSOP Main Event turnout of 6,865 players, day 1C starting Monday afternoon will have to draw 3,685 players.
Notables near the top of the leader board from day 1B include Vanessa Selbst (168,350), Matt Woodward (158,500), Jason Somerville (144,725), Daniel Negreanu (140,075), Maria Ho (130,425), Shaun Deeb (125,900) and Brian Hastings (119,000).
Selbst is coming off her second career WSOP bracelet. She won the $2,500 buy-in shorthanded ten-game mix on July 2.
On the last hand of the evening of the Main Event, Selbst grew her stack by having her pocket aces run into an opponent’s pocket kings.
Peter Eastgate, who won the event in 2008, survived the day with 51,000 in chips. The Danish poker player took some time away from the game in the past, but is succeeding on the felt once again. He made a final table in a $1,500 no-limit hold’em event less than a week ago.
Former champs Dan Harrington (83,750) and Jerry Yang (71,775) also survived the day.
Notables who hit the rail on day 1B include Bertrand Grospellier, Men Nguyen, Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Adam Geyer, Todd Brunson, Mike Sowers, Tom Dwan, John Hennigan, Chip Jett, Dennis Phillips, and former champs Scotty Nguyen, Greg Raymer and Carlos Mortensen.
Stay tuned to Card Player for a recap of the action from day 1C.
