Julian Thew has taken down his third Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) title, this time at Coventry’s G Casino, to be the first ever to win three main event trophies on the Tour.
Thew topped a field of 145 including many former champions such as last year’s winner Stuart Rutter who managed to final table the event again this year. Rutter had to move aside for Thew this time however as the UK pro was in flying form on his birthday and gave himself the gift of £42,740 for first place.
His final opponent, Rick Trigg, had held the chip lead from the get-go and throughout the entire event, but late-session Trigg fell off his throne and had to settle for second place and £30,090.
