Coolered in Cannes

Decided to go somewhere new this year, so I headed to Cannes for the main event of the Partouche Poker Tour. It’s supposed to be one of the juiciest tournaments of the year, with a nice big field, great structure and lots of terrible local players.

It was exactly as advertised. A field of 500 made a prize pool of almost 4 million euros. The structure was amazing, being only very slightly worse than the wsop main event (which has the best structure of the year). And as for the local players, well…

So with all this, surely I’d have a nice deep run? Not exactly. Another bust out on day 1.

In the first level I had five pocket pairs, plus AK, AQ and AJ once each. I completely missed the flop, turn and river (when I saw a turn and river) with all the hands but one. The one hand I hit, a set of sevens, was beaten by a set of jacks.

The first hand of level 2, I’m in the BB and 5 limpers come in the pot. I see a flop with my 2-Q and the board comes 2-2-4. I run into 2A and lose a little more.

A few hands later I get KK cracked by two pair, and then the very next hand lose KK to two pair again (though this time it was my own fault as I foolishly tried to run a big bluff against a french player).

The final hand of the day for me, with the blinds at 150-300. An early position player opens to 1200, and a middle position player calls. I move all in on the button for 8500 with AQ. Early position then insta shoves all in for about 9000. Middle position calls after thinking for a minute or two (he had like 40k+). I’m sure that I am totally crushed after this, and expect the players to show hands like KK and AK, leaving me drawing totally dead. Instead the early position player shows K9 offsuit, and the middle position player shows AJ suited. Wtf?? I honestly didn’t know what to say when I saw their hands.

Luckily I didn’t need to think about it long, as 4 low cards on the flop and turn followed by a J on the river put a quick end to my day.

About the only redeeming factor in this trip was winning a sat to EPT London in my free time. Next up for me is a few more days in Cannes, with one more small event to play, and then back home. After that it’s down to Atlantic City (possibly) for the WPT and then onto London for the WSOPE and EPT.

Keep the good stories coming Scott. I enjoy your blogs. Tough luck with those splashers in Europe. I wish I could spend an hour watching you play online as I have many questions to pick your brain with.

Scott, you are a real nice guy, but sorry... the 3.5$ from 2008 was an "accident" and you can be sure that it never gonna happen again. so stop telling the badbeat stories, the best thing you could do is stop playing this game, cause it is nothing for you. Take your money that is left from 2008 and be happy with that, otherwise you gonna lose all of your money and gonna borrow big money and lose it, too.

i made a new card player account just to respond to this blog.

Realkatja = right.

Scott, please stop posting blogs - no one wants to read about bad beats from you. It was because of bad beats that you made a name for yourself in the first place and won the 3.5 - now you cry about them?

please quit at poker and enjoy your new house and $$ in the bank.

It is not hard to tell the people who are jealous of your success. They probably also qualify as someone you have beat at the tables. Sounds like poor losers to me. Like cardwatcher123 states ...... Maybe you should take the time you read blogs and apply it to gaining more poker skills yourself

Lots of haters out there Scott... Guess they don't check your stats to see all the cashes you have had since the WSOP. Ah well... guess comments are like peoples "backsides" ... everyone has 'em !! (I think you all know what I mean by "backsides")

Let's realize one thing... Scott is a very good player, and has made a lot of money as a result of that. The purpose of these blogs is to give us insight into the life of these elite poker players. As you well know if you play, Poker is a game of tremendous skill, and some luck too. The fact that he doesn't cash in every tournament is a fact of the game, NO one cashes all the time. I would personally love to play poker for a living, but my game doesn't allow for that. If you hate on him then you are simply jealous. It's easy to sit behind a keyboard and sound off with some rude comments, and try to look like a hero. If you don't like the blog then don't read it. I will however keep enjoying the insight, and keep supporting Scott, one of the best Canadian poker players out there.

all the canadians coming to defend (eh?)? point is, almost every single blog from scott involves him talking about his bad beats. what other "elite poker players" have blogs that consist of all bad beats?

and if he doesnt hit a 1 outer Ace in the ME, than none of us even know who he is or give a damn about his blog...so...all the d--k riders...please stfu.

Im not a "fan" of Scott, nor do I dispute the fact that he got hit in the face with the deck on his way to the FT last year.

With that said, if your coming to his blog to tell him that he sucks at poker and that "NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOUR BLOG", You are a complete douchebag, as well as very jealous of his success.

If you didnt care, you wouldnt take the time to come here and tell him you dont care. The fact is you do care, and you are probably extremely jealous of the fact that he made a run and you did not.

Get over yourself...If you come here to post on another persons blog, Im willing to bet you are not that good at poker either. Sometimes it is better to sit and look stupid than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

you might want to take the time scroll up and see that i never once said scott sucks, or that no one cares about is blog. the point being made was, no one would care about his blog if he DIDNT get hit in the face with deck in the ME. hence, he put bad beats on people to claim his fame...the same bad beats that he is now crying about in his blogs. i enjoy all of scott's blog's that have nothing to do with bad beats...but if you havnt noticed the trend...most do.

its obvious by looking at scott's results that he is a good player - we all have access to the same sites to view this...so lets not turn this into me saying he is bad.

You guys are ridiculous. No idea how much skill it takes to go anywhere near day 3 of the ME. Don't forget the guy scott got "lucky" against in the big hand called off his entrie stack with one pair! jack with a 5 kicker. it was a ridiculous hero call and wouldn't have been made if there was less money in the pot at the time. Scott is a gifted player who makes moves when he feels the time is right. His stats speak for themselves, he isn't a 1 hit wonder. Sorry about Cannes Scott and best of luck in London.
