This week I just played two events at the world series, the 5K shootout and the 10K pot limit hold’em.
The shootout started off rough, with a tough table including carlos mortenson and allen cunningham. In the first major hand I got into I ran my pocket jacks into aces on an all rag board, and lost 3/4 of my chips. From a starting stack of 15,000 I was down as low as 3,200 before tripling up with with KQ vs A-10 and another hand in three way preflop all in.
After that things started turning around and I was able to build up a pretty big stack without risking too many chips, except one hand where I had carlos’s shorter stack all in and sucked out with 7’s versus kings.
When we got down to 3 handed I turned on the aggression and was able to bully the two players left and built up a huge chip lead going into heads-up. The heads-up match started horribly with me bluffing off a huge amount of chips and losing the chip-lead. It was a pretty epic match though, since after around 2 hours of 3-handed play we played another 2 hours of heads-up. Eventually with only 1 other table still running I finally busted when my AK ran into AA and it was all over.
Pretty disappointing, as almost the exact same thing happened last year in this event when I had over 3/4 of the chips in play 3-handed before losing a series of all ins.

Next up was the 10K pot limit hold’em. After arriving late, I was soon moved to a new table which didn’t look too hard at first glance, but ended up being full of ultra-aggressive players.
The craziest of the lot was the player to my left (possibly Keith Ferrera), whose ultra lag style and big stack forced me to play a very tight game.
After being stuck within 5,000 of my 30,000 starting stack for around 4 hrs I finally got into a big pot, and as usual with me it was a pretty strange one.
New player in middle position limps, aggressive player in late position limps as well, and I complete from the small blind with Q
6
, and the very aggressive big blind checks.
Flop is K
7
2
. Checked to late position player who makes a standard bet of 2,000, I raise to 6,000, he insta re-raises to 20,000 leaving himself with 40,000 more. I tank but eventually ship my entire stack of 27,000 making it 7,000 more for him to call. He tanks but eventually calls, and shows 9
8
.
Turn 9
River Q
, lol.
After building up to 80K I decided to loosen up after dinner but then lost 3 pre-flop all in coin-flips within 20 hands and was bust.
