Erick Lindgren got the monkey off his back in 2008. He finally won a World Series of Poker Bracelet when he took first place in the $5,000 buy-in mixed hold'em event. Now, he has a chance to be at the top of the poker world. He holds the chip lead heading into the final table of the $50,000 buy-in H.O.R.S.E event. Card Player caught up with Lindgren for his reaction on making the final table for poker's most coveted title.
Rafael Guerrero: First and foremost, how does it feel to be at the H.O.R.S.E final table?
Erick Lindgren: It feels just unbelievable. I wanted this so bad. The first year that I watched this event on T.V., and, uh, just following it online. The great players; Chip Reese, Doyle Brunson, Andy Bloch, Phil Ivey was there. Jim Bechtel, Dewey Tomko.
I just remember that and thought, "Man, I wanna get there so bad." And who knows when it's gonna happen for you and now I'm the chip leader going in, along with Scotty Nguyen. So, the table's all set now I just gotta bring it home.
RG: You came into this World Series having never won a bracelet. Now, you've won one already. How big would it be to win this one?
EL: Well, there's two events, well, probably three events that we look forward to all year: The World Poker Tour Championship even at Bellagio, this H.O.R.S.E event and the main event.
The main event's got 6,000 people in it and, (laughs), I'm one of eight at the final table of the H.O.R.S.E so I want this, just, there's no words.
RG: You're one of the big stacks. What's your strategy… do you even know what your strategy's going to be once you start the final table with those guys?
EL: I don't think, as a player – I think coming in with a preset strategy is wrong for poker. You just sit down and you adjust like a poker player does. That's what we do.
RG: Alright Erick. Good luck tomorrow.
