Arguably the greatest player of all time, “The Kid,” was a ferocious competitor who trumped his competition when he was on his A-game. After becoming one of the world’s top gin players, Ungar took his acumen for cards and translated it into total domination at the tables, winning back-to-back World Series of Poker Championship events in 1980 and 1981. Along with Johnny Moss, Ungar is the only other person to win three WSOP Championship events and earned five WSOP bracelets.
Almost as well-known for his addiction to drugs as he was for playing poker, this tragic figure eventually took a seat at the “big game” in the sky in 1999.
