John Myung is a professional poker player based in Vienna, Virginia. After graduating from Cornell University, he moved to Manhattan. Myung took a job with Morgan Stanley and worked at the World Trade Center. When an opportunity arose to take another job on Wall Street, Myung stopped working at the World Trade Center just a month before the September 11 tragedy. While taking a break from work, he began playing low-limit poker. He did so well that he never went back to work.

Since his decision to make poker his career, he spent years honing his skills in high-limit cash games. He dabbled in tournaments, making small cashes along the way. Then, at the 2003 Showdown at the Sands, Myung showed the poker community that he is a threat in tournament play as well. He faced a final table that included Brian Haveson, Victor Ramdin, Paul Wolfe, T.J. Cloutier, Daniel Negreanu, Thor Hansen, and Mike Matusow. In the end, it was Myung who was the last player standing and winner of the $1 million first-place prize. The next year, he won a preliminary limit hold’em tournament at the Five-Diamond World Poker Classic, and in 2007, he barely missed the World Poker Tour televised final table. He exited in eighth place.
