Known in poker circles as “The Dragon,” David Pham has been known to light a fire under his opponents with his dominant play and aggressive style. This Vietnamese-born player loves to keep things burning at the table and is always quick with a comment about the game.
Having a brief run-in with the poker gods earlier in his career, Pham went bust his first time trying to play poker professionally. He came back in a major way, cashing in 17 major events in 2000. This was good enough to earn him Card Player’s Player of the Year honor. Every year since, he has been a fixture in the rankings, as well, barely losing to Daniel Negreanu in 2004.
He has two World Series of Poker bracelets in the 2001 $2,000 buy-in S.H.O.E. event and the 2006 $2,000 buy-in shootout event and more than $7 million in career winnings. In 2007, Pham won four major tournaments including a heads-up event at the Mirage Poker Showdown and two preliminary events at the Winnin 'O' the Green series. He also finished second in the $10,000 World Poker Tour Legends of Poker main event and won a preliminary event during the 2007 Five-Diamond World Poker Classic. Pham made history when he clinched a second Card Player Player of the Year award in 2007.
Already proving his mettle for 2008, Pham made the final table of the European Poker Tour Poker Stars Caribbean Adventure. He finished fourth out of a staggering 1,136 players who entered.
