Online Poker: Events No. 10 and 11 of the FTOPS VIII
Another day down, and another two champions crowned during the Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS) VIII. Monday saw two more events play out to conclusion, and after hours of competition, nearly $2 million was paid out.
Event No. 10 - Pot-Limit Omaha Eight-or-Better
Monday’s first event has steadily increased in popularity since its inception, and the proof is in the numbers. More than 1,100 entrants ponied up the $200 buy-in to generate a prize pool of $227,400. More than $50,000 of that was earmarked for the eventual winner.
The event was hosted by Full Tilt Pro Mike Matusow, and, surprisingly, he was the only Full Tilt red-named player to cash in the event. Matusow made a deep run, but eventually faltered in 47th place. Other notable online pros to cash included Danny “THE_D__RY” Ryan, Jeff “YellowSub86” Williams, Grayson “The_Dean221” Nichols, and Nick “CapTinBisKuit” Blumenthal.
Event No. 2 winner whothedonk made a run at a second title, but fell just short, busting in seventh place. In the end, lilkimmer77 took out Madame Maria for the top prize, the custom gold FTOPS jersey and the gold FTOPS avatar. Lilkimmer77 is one of the most active members on the CardPlayer.com poker forum and regularly contributes to the poker discussion.
Here are the final results:
- lilkimmer77 — $51,165
- Madame Maria — $32,405
- Chessmanrus — $23,991
- Se_Musta_Mies — $18,761
- playerforty4 — $14,213
- hamazriya — $10,233
- whothedonk — $6,822
- kvnpat — $5,117
- TheZQZ — $3,638
Event No. 11 - No-Limit Hold’em
The second event of the night stepped it up a bit, as 1,593 entrants put up $1,000 in one of the largest events of the series. The buy-ins created a prize pool of more than $1.5 million, $342,495 of which would go to the eventual winner.
The event, which lasted almost nine hours, was hosted by Full Tilt pro Nick “The Takeover” Schulman. Schulman failed to make the money in the even, which paid 162 places, but fellow red-named pros Bruce Buffer, Jon “PearlJammed” Turner, and Huck Seed were able to shut down their computers with a bit of a profit in their accounts. Other notables to make a deep run included Travis “TravestyFund” Rice, Kenny “Kenny Rap” Weinstein, Zach “CrazyZachary” Clark, and Jonathan “HoosierAlum” Depa.
Ryan “Daut44” Daut came close to making the final table, but unfortunately bubbled in 10th place. Jonas “Klausen” Klausen had a shot at his second FTOPS title before being eliminated in third place. When all was said and done, Halfrek took out huey680 heads up to take the top prize.
Here are the final results:
- Halfrek — $342,495
- huey680 — $216,648
- Jonas “Klausen” Klausen — $160,893
- r4ndomr4gs — $127,440
- MR RUBBIES — $95,580
