Homecoming: A Missouri Tradition
The months of November and December often see students and others alike returning home for the holidays, but for a few Columbia, Missouri, natives, their homecoming was extra special. These Columbia natives are Dutch and Bobby Boyd, whom you may know from specials about "The Crew" from ESPN during the broadcast of the World Series of Poker. What made the Boyds' return home so special was that they were able to visit with their family and to play poker for a good cause. On Nov. 12, the Boyd family hosted a charity dinner and poker night called "Know When to Hold'em." The night included a lobster dinner and a poker tournament in which the Boyds and members of The Crew, such as Dorf and Joey, participated in the play. The purpose of the night was to raise money for the American Cancer Society, which holds a special significance for The Crew and, more specifically, the Boyds. Last year Dutch received a phone call informing him that his mother, Eva Seibert, had been diagnosed with breast cancer. "That was about the most scared I think I've ever been in my life," remarked Boyd thinking back to that day.
